Inspired by a Chanel jacket

Remember this post? Well, last evening I managed to cut the jacket (just the fabric, the lining not yet). The fabric is a very stretchy wool, a bit tweedy. The collar and the cuffs are cut from a creamy white wool. The pearl trim is there (bought it in Brussels six months ago, having this jacket in mind), I've got a very nice black silk lining pre-washed and pressed but still have to cut it. I've got silk embroidery thread, hooks, chain, everything is there.

I've used Vogue 7975, the shorter buttonless version (view A, B, C). I've used Burdastyle Eva 4102 for the shape of the neckline and the collar.

I won't be sewing however for the next 10 days, even though my fingers are itching for the sewing machine. Tomorrow Florin and I are celebrating four years of marriage (when did those go by?) and then my step sister in law is coming from the US to visit us. Step sister in law? Is there a such a word? I mean the daughter from the first marriage of my mother in law's second husband :))

I can't wait to follow your progress on this very exciting project! I can feel your pain for not being able to sew for 10 days... I won't sew for 4-5 days next week but yet I'll have other sewing related activities I look forward to, like meeting a very dear sewing friend and maybe buying some fabrics!

I can't wait to see how it progresses. Can you post pictures of how you morphed the two patterns? I have both those patterns and like what you are planning. Are you going to quilt the lining to the outer fabric?

OOh! I can't wait until you post on your progress! I, too, love the Chanel style and I think the jacket you picked is beautiful. It's classic but very contemporary at the same time. And congrats on your anniversary! Isn't it amazing how quickly the time passes?

Wow, thank you so much! I'm very impatient to start making the jacket myself. I'm so excited about it and already think about how I will incorporate the collar, as the Chanel jackets are normally collarless. But I've got a solution and I think it will work.
Nancy K, I'll try and take a picture but what I did was very simple: I superposed the Burdastyle front over the Vogue center front, making sure I match the center front lines and then drawn the Burdastyle neckline on the Vogue center front, leaving the rest of the pattern unchanged. I then measured the collar on the Vogue back and moved the notch marking the shoulder seam accordingly (1 cm forward) and shortened the collar by 1.5 cm (the collar is for a buttoned jacket and my Vogue version is buttonless therefore has no button extension).
And yes, I am going to quilt the lining to the jacket and do the whole sha-bang.
And thank you for your wishes for our anniversary! It's so nice of you!

Oh I am looking forward to seeing your progress on this. I too have decided to make a Chanel jacket and using Vogue 7975. I think Erica B is using the same pattern. It will be fun to see how we all interupt the design.
